It’s tabbed as Japanese food with a Southern twist. And that’s just what it delivers, ingredients like collards and corn and smoked barbecue pork infusing a bit of color into the traditional Japanese fare. Even so, while having a bit of fun with the traditional stuff, Nanbu stays pretty close to what Japanese food is known for. The appetizers include Togarashi popcorn, dumplings, shishito peppers, ginger salad and steamed buns two ways — eggplant for the vegans and pork belly for the meat lovers. From there it’s all about the bowls — poke, ramen and noodle.
